&Tradition is a Danish furniture company founded in 2010 by Martin Kornbek Hansen. The name &Tradition is inextricably linked to the company’s vision in which the present meets the past in a thoughtful, emotional and respectful way, allowing contemporary designers to connect with the work of the great masters to shape the classics of the future. &Tradition’s furniture, lighting and home accessories emphasise the links between craft, modern design, Nordic tradition and high quality. This is why the brand’s collections juxtapose works by great Danish designers like Verner Panton, Arne Jacobsen, Flemming Lassen, and Jørn Utzon with contemporary designers like Norm Architects Sebastian Herkner, Luca Nichetto, Jaime Hayon and Samuel Wilkinson. Bought out by Danish brand Hay in 2016, &Tradition markets its collections through an international network while maintaining its Nordic roots.
All products are built to last, embracing sustainable production processes and natural materials with the
utmost respect for the planet.

&Tradition and re-editions of great Danish classics

An important part of &Tradition's work consists of recovering the original sketches of some of the best-known design icons - from Verner Panton's Flowerpot lamp, first produced in the late 1960s, to Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen's Mayor sofa, explicitly designed for Søllerød town hall near Copenhagen. In some cases, the company mass produces them for the first time ever, making them available to the general public. Combining tradition and innovation, the great Danish classics are
intended for contemporary homes and spaces while respecting one of the most fundamental principles of our times: sustainability. This aspect informs the company's decision-making processes, production, projects and work ethic. &Tradition recognises that formally impeccable designs alone do not create objects that will last over time. They must be made with durable materials in a circular process.
&Tradition sources sustainable leather and sheepskin and uses feathers that comply with the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). The company has eliminated all toxic chemicals, intensified the recycling system and increased the use of FSC® certified wood from sustainable sources, creating products with the EU eco-label and Oeko-Tex® accredited materials.
Scandinavian design in the new &Tradition collections

Along with the twentieth-century gems, &Tradition's furniture, lighting, and décor collections feature contemporary pieces by some of today's most acclaimed designers, like the Spaniard Jaime Hayon, Danish Space Copenhagen, Swedish designer Sami Kallio and the Norwegian duo Anderssen & Voll. They all bring their cultural backgrounds and references to blend with the brand's Scandinavian DNA.

Space Copenaghen created Fly sofas inspired by elements of the Nordic design like the slatted wooden backrest, reinterpreting them with a sculptural and modern look.

The Moor rug series designed for &Tradition by the Danish studio All the Way to Paris was inspired by Scandinavia's heather-covered hills. The collection focuses on depth of colour rather than graphic patterns to create unusual scenic effects.

In the Palette desk, Jaime Hayon transforms the concept of Alexander Calder's kinetic sculptures into a
work surface stabilised by a metal structure and topped by other small tables, different in shape, size, colour and materials.

Luca Nichetto created Cloud, a family of one-, two- and three-seater sofas and a pouf, combining the Italian tradition of soft, enveloping cushions with the Danish tradition of sofas with well-defined forms.

The Sillon mirror series by Sebastian Herkne is inspired by the French Art Deco movement. The name, meaning "groove" in French, refers to the frame made by welded steel rods to contrast the mirror's smooth, reflective surface.

Nærvær, meaning "presence" in Danish, is the name chosen for the minimalist table designed by Norm Architects as an invitation to be mindfully present, whether participating in a conversation or a meal, creating intimate connections. The discreet design of the powder-coated steel circular base and the cylindrical stem supporting a round or square laminate top allows users to focus on space and interact with each other.
